AN ANALYSIS OF THE TIME-TRAVEL NOVEL OF THE CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE IN THAILAND

Abstract
The time-travel novel in Thailand belongs to one of the romantic fictions. The plot of this genre is always about the travel of a leading character from a period of time to another, especially from the future to the past, to do a series of activities and to find true love. Basically, the leading characters will bring along with them modern knowledge and innovation when they travel through time. Because the content of the time-travel novel is rich with the information about ancient history and cultural knowledge, the purpose of this research is to inspire young people to appreciate the history and culture of the nation. Moreover, it is hoped that the time-travel novel will play a positive role in promoting good values and cultures in the society. This paper studied five time-travel novels which are Tomyantee's Feeling with Two Worlds and The Past, Kaewkaw's From Dream Forever, Keeratee Chana's Across the Bed, and Rompaeng's The Love of Past Lives. From the analysis, the beliefs held by people in the past such as the beliefs in destiny, laws of karma, and three characteristics of existence are reflected well in these five time-travel novels. This paper also introduced the overview of the time-travel novels, summarized the connotations, characteristics, and analyzed the development of Thai time-travel novels.
