Abstract

The Thai Language (Central Thai) has more varieties of synonymous
compound structures than those of Lanna Thai, in which no evidence of existing synonymous compounds has been found. However, findings reveal single-syllable Lanna words used as part of Central Thai synonymous compounds. Even though the structures of Thai Lanna synonymous compounds make use of fewer syllables than those of Central Thai, Lanna words seem to give broader meanings than
Central Thai words in terms of semantics.
