A Study of Impact and Adaptation among Salaryman for Entering into the Cashless Society
Abstract
The study of Impact and Adaptation Among Salaryman for Entering into Cashless Society aimed to: 1) explore the financial behaviour of the salaryman, 2) examine a salaryman’s perceptions and attitude in gearing to the cashless society, and 3) investigate the impacts and adaptation guideline for entering into the cashless society. There were 400 salarymen from 2 districts in Songkhla Province participating in the study. The research instrument was questionnaires with close and open ended questions. The data collected were analyzed for frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, Multiple Regression Analysis, and Principle Component Analysis.
The results were as the followings.
1) There were 82 percent agreed that using cash was still necessary. The popular cashless payment method was payment by credit card, debit card, e-money, and e-wallet (23.44%) whereas the readiness in gearing to the cashless society was only 33.5 percent. 2) The overall perception and attitude among salarymen was at the high level (=3.66). Additionally, most of the participants wanted participation from all sectors in planning the infrastructure system according with the cashless society context. 3) The overall impacts that would occur in the cashless society was at high level (=3.81). Most of participants anticipated that the overpayment would occur (=4.02) and there was anxiety in account and personal security (=4.01). Moreover, the overall of adaptation guideline in gearing to the cashless society was at very high level (=4.21). The participants agreed on gaining more knowledge for increasing more understanding at the very high level (=4.49). Similarly, salarymen highly rated on decreasing of using cash and giving cash priority (=4.37). The hypothesis testing showed that number of participants’ electronic money cards positively affected their perception and attitude in gearing to the cashless society with the significance of 0.05 (r = 0.186). According to the study, it could be categorised the co-factors into 7 groups which could highly describe the instability of variables (80.38%).
