Abstract

This article focuses on changes in the forms of government lottery issuance in relation to the Thai economy from 1933 to 1939. This study was conducted by using primary evidence from various ministries regarding the state lottery, including other associated articles and dissertations.

The results revealed that during the period from 1933 to 1939, or from the period of the administrative change in 1932 to the beginning of the Second World War, the lottery was important to the Thai economy because lottery issuance is a method that the state applies to increase the income to compensate for the loss of reforms and national defense. In the meantime, Thai and global economic conditions contributed to the government’s determination of policy on lottery operations. Lotteries were issued on special occasions to seek more revenue. Changes in policy, according to economic conditions, allowed the Government Lottery Office to increase income as required resulting in the issuance of lottery on regular basis in the present.
