Abstract

TIME is an abstract word. One of the mechanisms enabling us to
understand time as a concrete is a cognitive process called metaphor. Metaphor
is a mechanism resulting from comparing abstract matter with concrete matter
via conceptual mapping study in order to understand meaning and thought of
language users.
This research explores the nature of TIME metaphor, a natural
phenomenon in everyday life, by analysing from metaphorical expression of time
relating to the Sun, the Moon and the Sky. This study also reveals lexical
characteristics of metaphorical expression when co-occured with motion words.

This study will be useful for further research on another aspect of metaphor and
time.
