Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the type of translation editing
and translation process in John Boyne’s children’s literature entitled “The Boy
in the Striped Pyjamas”. The analysis was conducted using qualitative data. The
researcher applied the principle of translation editing proposed by Sanchawi
Saibua to analyze the 20 examples. The findings were classified into two levels,
which was the adjustment in the word level and the language structure level.
The result indicated that in the word level, using words and idioms deletion was
found most frequently. Moreover, using phrases or sentence instead of word and
adding conjunction between the thinking were usually used. In terms of language
structure level, the two most frequently found types were rearrangement of
word order in sentence or phrase and adding and deletion of word in sentence.
Furthermore, the structure of word editing and modifying of negative sentence
were mostly found. In general, a literal translation technique was used because
of children’s literature. Also, the translator kept the same structure as the writer
in order to make the translation close to the original text.
