A Study of French Loanwords in Japanese Dictionary Shinmeikai-Kokugo-Jiten

Abstract

The objective of the research study is to investigate French loanwords
found in Japanese dictionary: Shinmeikai-Kokugo-Jiten (2012 Edition). The
analysis was based on semantic changes. The data were analyzed according to
the method of assimilation into French and Japanese context. Seventy-five words
were found in the dictionary according to semantic changes. To conclude, this
study offers insight into French loanwords in Japanese language.
