Main Article Content
Abstract
The objectives of this study were twofold: (1) to investigate the development of analytical and interpretive reading skills among first-year students majoring in Thai language through the implementation of Siwakarn Patoommasoot’s Four-Step Effective Reading Principles, and (2) to examine students’ perceptions toward the learning management based on these principles. The sample consisted of 65 first-year students enrolled in the Thai Language Program, Faculty of Education, Buriram Rajabhat University, in the second semester of the 2025 academic year. The research instruments included ten instructional lesson plans with a total duration of 12 hours, a formative assessment of students’ analytical and interpretive reading development, and a questionnaire measuring students’ opinions. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and percentage. The results revealed a continuous improvement in students’ analytical and interpretive reading skills. The mean score increased from 4.69 in the initial assessment to 8.23 in the final assessment, with a statistically significant difference at the .05 level. The majority of students demonstrated good and very good levels of development, accounting for 47.69% and 38.46%, respectively. Overall, students’ perceptions of the learning management were at a high level ( = 4.47, S.D. = 0.69), with the highest ratings observed in the areas of assessment and evaluation, as well as instructor performance. In conclusion, the implementation of Siwakarn Patoommasoot’s Four-Step Effective Reading Principles was effective in enhancing students’ analytical and interpretive reading skills and was highly positively perceived by the students.
