Abstract

In this paper, Based on the analysis of the cognitive ability of Chinese character structure of Thai primary Chinese learners, this paper further explores its influencing factors, and puts forward teaching strategies on the basis of Chinese character teaching principles. Fifty Thai primary Chinese learners are investigated with four Chinese character structures: left-right structure, left-middle-right structure, Upper-down structure and upper-middle-lower structure. A survey was conducted among Chinese learners.The survey found that: 1. Because of the limited time of answering and writing questionnaires, when many subjects can not write out the structure of the Chinese characters they see in time, most of them will distinguish the structure of the new Chinese characters by the knowledge of the Chinese characters they have acquired. 2. Most of the subjects were able to correctly distinguish unknown Chinese character structures with the help of the single-character parts of the Chinese characters they had learnt. 3. mother tongue has an influence on students' ability to analyze the structure of Chinese characters.
