Abstract

The purposes of the current study were to study and compare Chinese learning
strategies used by 3rd -year Chinese major students in the Faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences, Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University, in 6 aspects: preparation before attending
class, meeting the lesson pacing managed by their teachers, getting their teachers to pay
attention to students while studying in the classroom, avoiding getting distracted while
studying, dealing with lessons they do not understand, and getting themselves to pass exams
in Chinese Language courses. The samples were 99 3rd -year students, in the academic year
2017, majoring in Chinese in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Rajabhat Maha
Sarakham University selected by the purposive sampling method. The research instrument
was a set of questionnaire designed in 5 Likert Scales. The data were analyzed for
percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The hypothesis test was conducted using F-test
(One-way ANOVA). The results of the study were as follows: 1) The overall learning strategies
of 3rd -year Chinese major students in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences,
Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University, were rated at a high level. Each Chinese learning
strategy was rated at a high level. Three aspects with the highest mean scores were dealing
with lessons they do not understand, getting their teachers to pay attention to students
while studying in the classroom, and self-preparation before attending class, respectively.
2) In the aspect of “Meeting the lesson pacing managed by their teachers,” a statistical level
of .05 was found among those with grade difference. 3) In terms of “Getting their teachers to
pay attention to students while studying in the classroom” and “Dealing with lessons they
do not understand,” a statistical level of .05 was found among those studying in China in the
academic year 2017.
