Abstract

The research regarding Narration of Japanese Cultural Norm in Television Series “Amachan, The Little Girl of Sea” is a qualitative research. The main purpose of the research is to study the narration of the series “Amachan, The Little Girl of Sea.” Besides, another aim of the research is to study Japanese cultural communication through the series, utilizing concepts as well as theories of narrative structure of television drama.
It was found that the narration of the series was divided into the main plot and the subplot in order to attract an audience. The main plot is about how the main character fight and overcame her obstacles whereas the subplot presented about the Japanese lifestyle and idols in Tokyo. The outstanding theme of the series is the presentation of local people's love for their homeland as well as their struggles during crisis and natural disaster. The conflict in the story is mostly between people and people leading by the main character to capture audience’s attention.
Japanese cultural communication model in the series comprised of local Japanese cultural communication, culture of idols including the combination of the two cultures. Moreover, the series director has successfully presented a unique of rural culture together with the values of people in the society with the dream of a girl in idol industry which inspired many other girls.
