Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the causes of decreasing number of saving account holders and discontinuous of saving account holders. In order to examine the objective, randomized of 455 saving account holders, 13 bank staff from ABC bank Province 123 (anonymous) and 13 farmers from saving account holders (anonymous) were included in this study. Questionnaire and interview were used as tools in this study. The data obtained from the questionnaire and the interview were then analyzed in term of rating scale, frequency distribution, and percentage. The result showed that low level of education and low income are the major causes of decreasing number of saving account holders and discontinuous of saving account holders. It is suggested that they have behavior of spent more money than earn, therefore, they had to withdraw money or cancel their saving account. In addition, these saving account holders had no knowledge about patterns and benefit from having saving account. This study suggests solutions to these problems as following 1) reducing expenditure and increasing income of saving account holders, 2) changing the saving pattern and, 3) maintaining number of old customers and increase new customers. As a result, there will be more new and at the same time the current customers can continuously maintain their saving without termination or dismissal from saving program.
