FACTORS AFFECTING AMOUNT OF DEPOSITS IN THE GOVERNMENT SAVINGS BANK (GSB)

Abstract

This research aims to study factors affecting the deposit volume of Government Savings Bank. This study draws from secondary dataset by using monthly time series data from January 2012 to December 2017 total 72 sets and focusing on 4 factors; Inflation (INF), Policy rate (INT), Thai Baht rate (THB), and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis method is used for this study. 

The results of the study showed that Policy rate (INT) is the most significant factor affecting the deposit volume of the Government Savings Bank at the 99 statistically significant confidence level. And next factor is Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at 95 statistically significant confidence level. However, Inflation rate (INF) and Thai Baht rate (THB) correlates with the deposit volume of the Government Savings Bank in the opposite direction which means that they are insignificant factor and could not describe the relationship of the savings deposit of the Government Savings Bank.
