AN ANALYSIS OF “DEEP IMPRESSION” BY VANICH POTAVANICH

Abstract
This study aims to analyze Deep Impression, a composition of Vanich Potavanich. It mainly focuses on the melodic development technique. According to this study, the main idea of this composition comes from a traditional Thai tune, Loas-Somdej. The main idea has been transformed throughout the piece but it is fully revealed at the end of the piece. The elements used in this composition are made by the beginning of Laos Somdej, motive and fragments. In addition, the melody of Deep Impression has been developed by various techniques; such as, embellishments, ornamentation, augmentation, diminuation, meter change, modulation, register transposition, and music quotation.
