Abstract

Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are classified in a group of non-communicable diseases that are high risk for chronic kidney diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. All are major problems in public health. This research aimed to examine the risks of cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney diseases, and cerebrovascular diseases among patients with diabetes and hypertension in Nong-Prue Health Promoting Hospital, Bangphli, Samutprakan. A sample, 301 persons, was selected from patients with diabetes, hypertension, or both, who regularly got treatment at Nong-Prue Health Promoting Hospital. The measurements were Stroke risk scorecard, Thai CV risk score, and Thai CKD risk score. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage.


The results showed that 301 samples comprised 33.55% male and 66.45% female, 69.44% over or equal 60 year-old of age. Regarding underlying diseases, there were hypertension (55.82%), diabetes mellitus (7.30%), and both diseases (36.88%).


The findings of patients with hypertension and diabetes with and without laboratory tests for screening found that 32% got moderate risk and 34.65% showed very high risk for cardiovascular diseases, respectively; 58.25% and 76.85% revealed very high risk for chronic kidney disease, respectively; and showed moderate risk and high risk of stroke by 50%.
