UNIVERSAL DESIGN AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF BTS SKYTRAIN

Abstract

This research is a qualitative one collected from literature reviews and interviews. The interviews are consisting of three groups of participants: the elders and handicaps, general people, and relevant BTS boards. The aim of this research is to find out passengers, who have physical disabilities, satisfaction on facilities in BTS.

According to the results, they showed that 1) Nowadays, there are a large number of passengers taking BTS for their transportation in each day. This impacts on the shortage of BTS among the elders and handicaps so many requests are called for solutions. 2) If the board applies Universal Design to solve the problems and take mutual responsibilities for society, it will surely have good effects on both handicaps and the elders to express the equal right of human in spite of disabilities. 3) Increasing convenient and accessible facilities covering the whole area is satisfying, lessen the protests. 4) The company’s good policies are effective and valuable things for the elders and handicaps to assist them deal with any situations by themselves without pushing them into troubles.
