LEARNING MOTIVATION DEVELOPMENT FOR MUSICAL ENSEMBLE SKILLS: A CASE STUDY OF MUSIC STUDENTS

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study a learning management based on a theory of using Learning Motivation to enhance students’ musical ensemble skills and 2) study students’ development and achievement of musical ensemble. The sample consisted of four students from the Royal Thai Air Force School with an average age of 16-17 years old. The research instruments included 1) ten lesson plans (1 hour each) , 2) an ensemble evaluation table, and 3) a classroom observation form. The Wilcoxon Signed Test was used to analyze the data. The outcomes of this research revealed that the level of statistical significance was .001 which was lower than .05, showing that the students’ musical ensemble skill achievement gradually improved effectively. An average score of each test was very good. Moreover, the researcher observed and recorded each student’s development and weakness after each class. Throughout the study, the students were allowed to make their own decision to select any songs they preferred to study and felt interested in. The students were also encouraged to ask the inquiries while they were performing. In other words, they were given a freedom to jointly share an idea or discuss performing methods as well as any creative ideas. The researcher also made recommendation on musical ensemble tricks. In class, the researcher made every effort to make the students have less anxiety. As a result, this helped the students to learn better and also make them learn the course happily.
