A Study of Problems Affecting Outage of Thermal Coal-Fired Power Plant in Thailand

Abstract

At present, Thailand has encountered a power crisis that the electricity produced in the country is not enough to suffice the demand, therefore must purchase energy from the neighboring countries to use in the country. The power plant especially coal power plants that have a large amount of energy. Each outage of operation results in problems of insufficient electric power and resulting in power outages in certain areas, resulting in loss of electrical system stability in Thailand, loss of income in the case of a commercial power plant and affecting in the matters of business, economy, or people's livelihood. This article offers an analysis of the root causes and presents practical guidelines to prevent outage of operation with an emphasis on personnel and machinery. This article uses information from interviews of people with experience in coal power plants in Thailand. The results of the study found that the guidelines including Training, Create knowledge transfer systems, Helping tools, Data collection, and Re-commissioning are solutions to prevent outage of operation.
