INFLUENCING FACTORS OF THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT IN AYUTTHAYA PROVINCE DURING THE YEAR 2001-2011

Abstract

This qualitative research aimed to study the influencing factors of the election of the member of parliament in Ayutthaya province during the year 2001 – 2011. The selective group of this research included the member of the parliament, candidates for the members of parliament, bureaucrats, the government officer, and local politicians in Ayutthaya district. This was the qualitative research by in-depth Interviews and interpreted to make a conclusion.

The findings revealed that there were many the influencing factors of the election of members of parliament in Ayutthaya province during the year 2001 – 2011 when divided to different factors 1) Parties factor: the policy, image, and support of the parties influenced the election of members of parliament in the area. 2) Political leader factor: members of parliament used to play a big part in local politics such as Chief Executive of the Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), Deputy Chief Executive of the PAO, Members of the PAO etc. A role and success of the Members of Parliament in the past influenced people to elect the person for the position. 3) Benefit Group and the patron-client system factor: Members of Parliament got to people. They visited one another, talked about the problems, exchanged their opinions, helped with cultural ceremonies and those in need. 4) Election factor: most strategies of the election of Members of Parliament were to socialize with the locals and tell them about the policies. The campaign of Members of Parliament that influenced people to vote were the ones who worked continuously and closely to the locals.
